Scenes From Southern California as Wildfires Persist

Longtime residents in the mountain region of Southern California have seen decades of wildfires ravage their neighborhoods, counting themselves lucky when their homes and loved ones have survived. But over the last week, a triple threat of large fires has torn through Los Angeles and neighboring counties, burning longstanding and newly built homes, displacing thousands, and torching more than 100,000 acres of land.

Almost a million acres have burned in California so far this year, killing one person and destroying more than a thousand structures, according to Cal Fire. Currently, more than 30,000 Californians are under evacuation orders and almost 100,000 are facing evacuation warnings.
