PROFILE/DESCRIPTIONMy first proposal is “Karyotic,” a fragrance brand whose scent lines are inspired by the wonders and beauty behind microcellular biology. Scents relate to different aspects of the processes and elements of cells, both eukaryotic and prokaryotic. Mitochondria, for example, could be a fresh scent that is bright, vibrant, and full of energy---notes of citrus and bergamot---much like how mitochondria is where cellular respiration occurs, leading in ATP generation (the main energy-carrying molecule used by all life forms). It is based in the ever-evolving and changing biotech capital of South San Francisco. Karyotic targets late teenagers to 30 year olds, an age where a possible interest in both biology and fragrance develops. All genders are welcomed to use Karyotic's scents, as the scope of perfumes are versatile and inclusive. For many students (high school and college), biology can be a difficult subject to understand, making it unlikeable for many. The goal of Karyotic is to create a positive connotation on biology, specifically microcellular biology, by making positive connections between familiar and likable scents with all aspects of microcellular biology---highlighting the beauty and complexity that cells offer us. This brand brings the beauty of cells from the micro-world to the macro, with identifiable smells and visuals. Funds go to private research.
