PROFILE/DESCRIPTIONThe League of Women Voters is an organization founded in 1920, when the 19th Amendment extending the franchise to women was ratified. The League, in addition to a national center, is composed of 733 local chapters across all 50 states. The organization is most known for activism related to voting and carrying out work such as voter registration, providing ballot measure analysis, and advocating for voting rights. Between 1976 and 1984, the presidential debates were hosted by the League. The League's association with the suffragettes and the beginning of women's right to vote, especially through its founder Carrie Chapman Catt, as well as its role in hosting the presidential debates and established presence in communities doing on the ground get out the vote work has given the League a lot of name recognition and legitimacy among older Americans. GOALSAmong younger Americans, the League is becoming less and less relevant. The League has in recent years made stronger stances on issues like climate change, universal health care, and LGBTQ+ rights. These bus shelter ads seek to reach younger Americans and emphasize the League as a more active organization that's engaged not just in education work, but also advocacy.
