PROFILE/DESCRIPTION

For this project, I will be designing bus shelter ads for the American Conservatory Theater’s (ACT) production of “The Elephant Man.” The ACT is located in the heart of San Francisco and has long been a nexus for live theater. The ads will be geared towards adults and not towards children or young adults due to their difficulty in comprehending the play’s meaning and subject matter. These ads will be located in bus shelters along heavily populated bus routes in San Francisco at least three weeks prior to the release in order to generate interest and buzz. Additionally, these ads may be used in mass transit systems such as BART.

GOALS

The ads for “The Elephant Man” will all share the same artistic direction (i.e. stark, foreboding, gloomy) although the contents of each ad will be different (i.e. gloves, a mask, an x-ray). The ads should be simple. Upon seeing these ads, viewers should grasp a vague idea of the play’s subject matter, mood, and tone. Above all else, these ads should create interest in the play.
